Learning from Within
People have different learning styles, according to education researchers. The Visual-Auditory-Kinesthetic model describes how some people learn better by seeing, some by listening, and some by experiencing or feeling. Just as we learn from the world outside us in preferred ways, I believe we learn from Spirit within us in different modes as well. That's why some people hear the voice within, some see visions and others feel God's Presence in their lives.
Ernest Holmes wrote about the capacity of each of us to learn from the Spirit within in his declaration of the principles of Religious Science, entitled What We Believe. He said, "We believe in the direct revelation of Truth through the intuitive and spiritual nature of the individual, and that any person may become a revealer of Truth who lives in close contact with the indwelling God."
It's easy to compare what characterizes each internal learning style by showing what the mystics have said about their inner experience of the Divine. Auditory mystics talk about the still, small voice and listening to Divine Harmony or to the music of the spheres. Visual mystics discuss seeing the face of God, clear vision, symbols and images of light, darkness or color. Kinesthetic mystics report their deep sensing of the Oneness of all Life, or being touched by grace.
Each style is perfect! However you commune with Spirit within you, your way is just right. Bless it and know that with continued practice, we all may become awakened mystics, revealing our own inner truth.
I wake up to the Presence of Spirit within me today. Through the still small voice, the shining Light or my powerful feelings, I sense God revealed in glorious Truth. My life is guided perfectly as I tune into my own unique way of knowing Love.
