A New Page
During a meditation, I saw myself sitting at my computer doing word processing. I was trying to fit some new information onto a page containing a lot of old information. Preferring the format I'd designed for the new data, I was struggling to make the old material line up beautifully with it. It just didn't fit. I felt very frustrated, recovering perfectionist I’ve been, because I couldn't get it all to look orderly and attractive together.
Suddenly the light dawned. The new information didn't really need to be integrated in with the old. I quickly hit the keystrokes to command my word processor to create a completely new, blank page. I copied the new stuff onto the new page. Voila! It was beautiful, easily readable, consistent, and clear. I glanced back at the old page. It looked attractive now, too. My critical judgment about the old format was the problem. The original layout by itself now looked quite acceptable.
This symbolic vision helped me to understand how life works. The past is past. If it is affecting us today, it is only because we are thinking about it and carrying it into the present moment with us. Sometimes it works best to let go of the old and mentally create a clean slate. I’ve heard it jokingly called a "do over." As we focus our attention on experiencing the present moment with fresh appreciation, our creativity soars. The past fades into a softer focus. The more we love today, the more we may find to love in our past.
Today I choose to turn a new page in my book of life and begin afresh. The more I love today, the more I find to love in my past. I surrender to the divine, creative dance of the universe.
